Julia Thomas Portrait and Box

Medium Impression by Michelle Wire

A chest always tells a story, and this is no exception. Julia and Kate have weaved a dramatic story of entangled lives. While I’m unsure of how the woman crossed paths, I can say that their relationship was tumultuous and incredibly rocky from the start. While Julia’s presence seems quiet, behind closed doors I’d use the word “tyrant” to describe her best and you can feel that emanating from the box when it is active. The shrew-like screaming is hers however, not one to take anything lying down, Kate pushes back constantly.

While it feels like an intimate relationship initially, like lovers, it may be instead a toxic codependency and constant power play that continues to this day.

This box reflects tumult. The women argued constantly and passionately, and that energy filled the house daily. Julia kept important items in this chest, along with letters and jewelry that were dear to her. Upon her death, Kate seemingly took on her identity (including wearing that jewelry from the box) and felt no guilt or remorse for the loss of this woman who posed as an employer, friend and foe constantly.

Quite simply, they devolved into passionate madness together and this box witnessed much of it and the aftermath. At times it almost vibrates with activity, due to combustible personalities contained within. There is no threat from the box but do expect a lot of noisy activity. Both of these women are prone to being heard, and will continue to play out time and time again while they argue over who was right and if the death was an accident. It seems that resting in peace is not in the cards for these ladies.
