Annie’s and Sallie’s Dolls

Medium Impression by Violet Bloom

These two haunted dolls were owned by two young sisters named Annie and Sallie Bitting. Their parents were Charles and Elemina Bitting nee Sassaman. They had six daughters-three older than Annie and Sallie and one younger, but they had no sons. The Bitting’s loved their children, but their mother hoped they could have a son to carry on their family name. Sadly, that was not in the cards for them.

Annie was closest to her younger sister Sallie and they played together constantly with these dolls, talking and giggling out loud, pretending the dolls were having conversations with each other. They had so much fun and playing together with these dolls was among the best of their childhood memories.

When Annie grew up, she married a man named Howard Cressman right before Christmas. And when she got married, she took along both dolls. Both Annie and Sallie thought the dolls should stay together.

Annie and Howard had five children-Russell, Marie, Louise, Earl, and Kenneth. Baby Louise died the same day she was born. Annie played dolls with her own• daughter Marie, just like she and her sister Sallie had played with them as children. Playing with the dolls also became her daughter Marie’s favorite thing to do.

After her parents passed away, Marie inherited the dolls and she discovered that she could hear the dolls talking and playing. At first, she was a little frightened, but she felt much more connected to her mother. She also discovered the dolls were not always in the same place she had left them. Marie always had a very warm, loving feeling around the dolls and she knew her mother Annie and her Aunt Sallie were nearby, watching over her.

More than likely, these dolls were made in Germany-it is very common for vintage German dolls to have teeth! The dolls have very strong positive energy and will make an interesting addition to any haunted doll collection. Without a doubt, the spirits of Annie and her sister Sallie are attached to these two dolls. Their new keeper may hear them playing, talking, and giggling softly in the night and who knows, maybe they will move. These two are a lot of fun. If you give each doll a cat ball that lights up, place the dolls several feet apart, facing each other, and you may notice that they “communicate” with each other, by lighting up the cat balls. These two love anything that lights up and makes noise.
