Attached to this doll is the spirit of a little girl, whose name was Katharina Elisabetha. She was born in 1910 in Germany, the youngest of six children. Her family settled in Pennsylvania. Of all the children, Katharina was her father’s favorite. He had more time to spend with her than he did any of the other children. And she looked like an angel with dark curly hair and big eyes.
When she was five years old, she and her father were having tea. Katharina was talking a blue streak and then she suddenly stopped. She began staring at something her father and her nanny could not see. The poor child turned completely white and had no expression on her face. She was as limp as a dishcloth-unresponsive, but still breathing.
Her father sent the nanny down the street to fetch the doctor. Her father put a cold washcloth on her forehead. The doctor arrived and a few minutes later Katharina sat up and sat she was glad she wasn’t spinning any longer. The doctor explained that she had experienced a very mild seizure.
The nanny put Katharina to bed and the doctor became frank with her father. He told him Katharina may have epilepsy. It was a mysterious disease, a neurological disorder with sensory disturbances, loss of consciousness, and possibly seizures. The doctor suggested careful monitoring of the child and he would follow-up in a week. Katharina’s father was glad his wife was visiting cousins in New York.
He was terribly worried about the social aspect of epilepsy. Epilepsy was considered a stigma and the worst part was that many people believed that people with epilepsy were mentally ill and/or possessed by demons. Some people feared them and demanded that they be isolated, even institutionalized. Katharina’s father didn’t want anything like that to happen to his little girl.
Katharina was a bright, giggly little girl. Her mild epilepsy did not affect her intelligence or her learning. She was also quite creative and artsy.
About a month later, Katharina had another mild spell. The doctor said there was a medication called potassium bromide that was being used to treat epilepsy. He prescribed a very low dosage for Katharina and it helped control the seizures.
Katharina’s father told her mother what had been happening. This caused a huge clash in the family. Her mother said they should think of all the other children and how Katharina’s spells would affect their lives. Her mother set up a room where Katharina would stay by herself. Her father bought her a beautiful dark-haired doll, which Katharina named Liza. When the child when downstairs or dinner, her mother told her they had something special for her in the kitchen.
This went on for a few weeks and her father saw how it was affecting his sweet little daughter. He decided that he would take Katharina to New York to see a visiting Dr. Hauptmann from Germany who had been doing trials using phenobarbital. He hired a nanny for Katharina and they moved into an apartment. He felt badly about the other children and for Katharina who missed her brothers and sisters. But he didn’t want little Katharina exposed to cruelty and ignorance, especially from her own mother.
When Katharina was eight, there was a terrible blizzard in New York City. She begged her father to go out and play in the snow. He indulged her and a couple of weeks later she had a severe case of pneumonia and she died. Katharina’s father was shattered by his daughter’s death and she attached to Liza to comfort him. She very much wants to be part of a family. Katharina is a shy cautious spirit, but she is very curious and I believe with nurturing and encouragement, she will enjoy communicating. You can use anything that produces light. In death she no longer suffers from epilepsy, but she still worries that others continue to judge her. She does not like to talk about her original family.
She will be happy to communicate with you, but it may take time. She will readily use telepathy. You can practice by clearing your mind and paying attention to the next thought that pops into your head. Those thoughts are generally from the spirits. You only have to convince yourself that it is happening-which is actually the bigger challenge.
You can find out a lot about her by asking yes/no questions using trigger lights, flashlights, and/or candles. She is a playful girl and as I was writing this, I kept hearing a tapping noise. When I went out to investigate-my husband and the cats were all dead-asleep-so someone was having fun by tapping. I also have the feeling that she slips out of her vessel quite often and if you happen to be sitting there, you may see Liza’s dress flutter slightly when she leaves and re-enters the vessel. She is a positive loving child spirit who has chosen you for your kindness and generosity. Enjoy her! She is a sweetheart.
